Workshop EXOTOP: EXOplanets and solar system planet atmospheric modeling from TOP to bottom
4-5 déc. 2025
Amphi Mégie in LATMOS 11 Bd d'Alembert, 78280 Guyancourt, France. - Guyancourt (France)
The generic climate model (PCM-generic) of IPSL is a key tool for studying planetary atmospheres, but it does not yet cover the upper layers (thermosphere, ionosphere), which are nevertheless crucial for understanding atmospheric escape, UV/XUV chemistry, and habitability. An extension exists for Mars and Venus, thanks to a collaboration between LATMOS, LMD, and IAA. Building on this experience, we propose to couple the lower and upper layers within the PCM-G. This workshop aims to bring together specialists to identify the processes to be modeled, technical challenges, and potential applications. It will also aim to structure internships, PhDs, and collaborative projects. As part of the “Solar System and Planetology” theme of GCEP, this project aspires to develop a more comprehensive model, aligned with current and future space missions.
