Transport of microplastics in estuaries

We are delighted to invite the scientific community to participate in the Workshop on Microplastic Transport in Estuaries, organized in the context of the ANR PLASTINEST project. Scheduled for July 4, 2025 in Bordeaux—serving as a satellite event to the annual GDR Plastique Environnement Santé conference—this workshop will convene international experts (researchers, doctoral candidates, master students, and environmental professionals) to examine and discuss the dynamic processes governing microplastic transport and fate in estuarine systems, a critical component of the land–ocean continuum that serves both as a conduit for export and as a trap for these emergent pollutants. Key topics include vertical transport in muddy environments, intratidal and seasonal variations, and large-scale transport processes. Presentations will feature laboratory experiments, in-situ observations, and numerical modeling approaches, highlighting their complementarity to achieve a robust, multi-dimensional understanding of microplastic transport and fate dynamics. The event aims to share cutting-edge research, identify knowledge gaps, and foster new collaborations. Featuring engaging oral presentations from invited speakers, interactive poster sessions, and hands-on field demonstrations, the workshop promises to generate momentum for future research and actionable strategies in this rapidly evolving field.
