The concepts of truth and bias play pivotal roles in shaping our understanding of cognition, decision-making, and societal structures. This workshop delves into the interplay between truths—objective or perceived—and biases, which influence how we interpret, process, and act upon information. By bringing together experts from cognitive science, psychology, criminology, justice studies, artificial intelligence, and related disciplines, we aim to explore questions such as: How do cognitive biases shape human behavior and perception of truth? What role do biases play in the development and deployment of AI systems? How can justice systems account for human and algorithmic biases in the pursuit of fairness?
Through interdisciplinary discussions and cutting-edge research presentations, this event seeks to advance our understanding of how biases emerge, how they can distort truths, and what interventions might mitigate their effects. By addressing these questions, the workshop aspires to contribute to more robust theoretical frameworks and practical solutions for navigating the complex interplay between truths and biases in human cognition and artificial intelligence.
