This winter school focuses on the critical application of motion capture technology in real-world sports settings to understand and enhance athletic performance. Utilizing sensors directly on the field is fundamental, especially for high-level performance, as it provides precise, context-specific data that cannot be replicated in controlled environments. This approach is essential for developing accurate performance metrics and training methods tailored to the unique demands of various sports. The workshop spans two and a half days and features two plenary sessions each morning. These sessions will showcase the research efforts undertaken to adapt motion capture sensors for field use and demonstrate how these technologies have been practically applied in sports. Specifically, the focus will be on the implementation of inertial measurement units (IMUs) and markerless motion capture systems. Afternoons are dedicated to practical case studies, with hands-on sessions directly at the practice venues. These sessions will cover practical applications in swimming and pole vaulting, providing participants with the opportunity to see these technologies in action and understand their impact on performance improvement in real-world conditions.
