Tropical regions are renowned for their rich and diverse forests, which offer abundant sources of wood. These forests offer a wide variety of wood species, ranging from hardwoods to softer ones. The abundance of wood resources makes it a readily available and affordable material for both urban and rural populations. Indeed, wood has long served as a primary material for construction and cooking fuel in tropical countries. Traditional wood uses remain prevalent, while timber harvesting and processing industries thrive, catering to domestic and global markets. However, there are concerns about illegal logging and unsustainable practices. The extensive reliance on wood poses significant threats to tropical forests, leading to deforestation and illegal logging. To address this, further research is needed to harness technological advancements and promote sustainable utilization of tropical forest resources. This conference seeks to foster knowledge exchange and showcase best practices that contribute to striking a balance between conservation efforts and productive utilization. It aims to inspire further research and development that promote a harmonious coexistence between meeting human needs and preserving these crucial ecosystems. The conference will consist of invited keynotes, voluntary papers, round table discussions, and field visits. These activities will take place in Antananarivo, the Capital of Madagascar, and Mandraka forest, 60 km from the Capital.
