The French research infrastructures (RIs) gathering the Critical Zone Observatories (RI‐ OZCAR) and the LTSER Zones Ateliers network (RI‐RZA), will organize on November 9 and 10, an international scientific symposium intended to reflect and organize their contribution to the eLTER infrastructure (Integrated European Long-Term Ecosystem, critical zone and socioecological Research). In a period of important transition for the community the end of the program of excellence CRITEX *, the beginning of the program of excellence TERRA FORMA *, upcoming European applications for sites and thematic centers, this conference is an opportunity for a reflexive assessment of our long‐term place‐based observation systems and the support of their transformation in close interaction with stakeholders. We wish to initiate a collective mobilization of researchers and actors on what the French community can defend and bring to the European construction, on the opportunities of collaborations with other countries. We aim to write a position paper at the end of this meeting. The meeting will gather about ten invited conferences divided into three sessions, a poster session, a round table associating stakeholders and a workshop in a world café format. The three sessions (and keynotes) will cover the diversity that characterizes the research of national territorial observation systems: i) Critical zone instrumentation, from CRITEX to TERRA FORMA. Keynotes: Jannis Groh (Germany), Jean Riotte (France and India), Camille Bouchez (France) and Arnaud Elger (France) ii) Sciences for action and transformation Keynotes: Daniel Orenstein (Israel), Isabelle Arpin (France), Gilles Nigel Loccoz (Norway). iii) Thinking of the LTSER observatory of the future. Keynotes: Jérôme Gaillardet (France), Olivier Ragueneau (France), Claire Magand (France) A program, currently being finalized, will be distributed as soon as possible. The conference will take place at the IPGP, 1 Rue Jussieu, 75005 Paris. The organization will take care of accommodation (from November 8 to 10) and meals for participants. We invite you to reserve this date now, registration will open in the coming weeks. * CRITEX: Innovative Equipment for the Critical Zone * TERRA FORMA: Designing and testing intelligent observatories for territories in the Anthropocene.
