The International Place Branding Association (IPBA) – established in 2016 - is a non-profit independent association of academics, professionals and other individuals involved or interested in the principles and practices of brand development and brand management for places (cities, regions, nations and destinations). The mission of the Association is to enhance the international recognition, visibility and development of the place branding and place marketing disciplines among the expert, professional and academic communities as well as among the different institutions and public and private organizations involved directly or indirectly in the branding and marketing of places (cities, regions, nations, destinations) by ensuring professional standards in the profession through: • professional development and networking; • debate and knowledge creation, sharing and dissemination. The International Place Branding Association (IPBA) and IMPGT (Institut de Management Public et Gouvernance Territoriale, Aix-Marseille University) host 2022 Annual Conference. The conference builds on the collective success of the earlier IPBA conferences, the International Colloquia on Place Brand Management (London and Aosta), the International Conference on Destination Branding and Marketing series (DBM Macau and Cardiff), the City Branding Symposia (Stockholm and Beijing), the Corfu Symposia on Managing & Marketing Places, and the Poznan Best Place Summit. The conference aims to bring together scholars, practitioners and students of place branding and related fields. It is the main vehicle to advance the aims of the IPBA, which include providing a forum for the exchange of ideas around the theory and practice of place branding, linking the members of the international place branding community in a beneficial manner, bringing scholars and practitioners closer together and advancing the professionalization of the field. The establishment of the IPBA is a significant development in the field of place branding and the conference is aimed at both celebrating this development and building on the momentum it creates for the advancement of the discipline. The conference will gather place branding experts from academia, practice and policy making for a valuable discussion around this intersection of marketing, tourism, economic development, events organisation, heritage management, spatial design, public diplomacy and human geography. Special opportunities for networking will be offered.
